Holland become tournament favorites

After beating Italy 3-0 and France 4-1, Holland are now the tournament favorites.

It was a case of déjà vu as Marco van Basten's team did to France what they had done to Italy four days earlier, following up their 3-0 victory over the Azzurri with a 4-1 demolition of Les Bleus. Although the two teams registered the same number of shots on target – 9 – it was the remarkable finishing prowess of the Dutch that made all the difference.

The Dutch started as they meant to go on with an early goal, scored by Dirk Kuyt.

Sneijder collected his second Carlsberg Man of the Match award of the finals at the full-time whistle after Marco van Basten's side undid the 2006 FIFA World Cup finalists – with the 24-year-old applying the coup de grâce of a tremendous late strike. "This is great, this is pure pleasure," the midfielder said. "The [3-0 win] against Italy was a fantastic game, and today we did exactly the same [in winning by three goals]. We must enjoy this win."

Carlsberg Man of the Match award winner Weslej Sneijder greets his family

Looking forward to the next game where they will take on Romania. The Group C table standings are Netherlands 6, Romania on 2 and both Italy and France on 1 point. With this result, Holland is definitely secured their spot for the quarterfinals.
